  Application Procedure

Apply for admission to the Semester in Antwerp program

Download and print out the application, fill it out, then return the complete application to the Office of International Programs, 1077 South Main Street, MSC 5731, Harrisonburg, VA 22807. You are strongly encouraged to deliver your application in person; however, you may mail your application to the OIP.

  Download the application! (Word)

In addition to the application, you will need:

  • A letter of recommendation from a current or former JMU instructor or from your academic advisor, attached or sent by email to studyabroad@jmu.edu

  • A one-page essay indicating why you want to study abroad. The essay should indicate the reasons for choosing this program, and how the choice of courses, program structure, city, or country, relates to your past, present, and future academic career and personal goals. In other words, how do you think you will benefit from the experience?
  • An official transcript is required for first-semester transfer students and non-JMU students.

After the early admission deadline (November 15), we will accept 30 students for each fall and spring semesters. The Director of the program, Dr. Newell Wright, will also create waiting lists, as needed. You will be provisionally accepted (pending admission into COB 300), rejected, or put on a waiting list.

Applications sent by November 15, will qualify for early acceptance into the fall or spring Semester in Antwerp program. Each year, we first fill the slots for the fall semester, usually by November 15 deadline. However, many times we had spaces leftover for the spring semester. If you don't absolutely have to go during fall, apply for the spring semester. Admittance for the spring semester is likely to be easier than for fall.

The final deadline for application to these two Semester in Antwerp programs is February 1.

See important dates for more information.

Advice: If you want to be accepted into the Semester in Antwerp program for fall, apply by November 15 of the previous year. (For example, if you want to go in fall 2006 apply by November 15, 2005)
