FAQ - Getting to Antwerp

We decided not to provide a group flight since it is our experience that arranging a group flight is often more expensive than if students traveled on their own.

However, JMU will be at the Brussels airport on the specified date with a bus, and will pick up all students who arrive between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. (most international flights arrive between these times).

If your flight is delayed, or if you arrive on a different day, you will have to get to Antwerp on your own, but that is easy to do.

Fly into Brussels International Airport (airport code: BRU). Visit the official website of the Brussels airport if you need more details. There are many direct flights from Dulles airport, as well as airports in Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and other major east coast cities.

The FMIR will be at the Brussels airport on the designated arrival date to meet students who arrive between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Most international flights from the United States will arrive between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The FMIR will wait for you with a bus and get you to Antwerp.

If you arrive at a different day or time, you will have to get to Antwerp on your own. A Sabena bus leaves from the Brussels airport to Antwerp every hour. The bus leaves from the lower bus area and costs 7.50 euros. Find a cash machine and withdraw about 50 euros. Look on a map or ask someone where the Sabena bus is located. Make sure you get on the Sabena bus going to Antwerp. Ask the bus driver if you are uncertain (she/he will understand English). For more information, check the bus to Antwerp website. The bus will drop you off near the train station in Antwerp, which is right next to a Taxi stand. Call a taxi, and have it drive you to:

Go through the passageway under the "Wol Natie" sign. On your right is a door for the Resident Advisor (RA). Ring the bell and let the RA know you have arrived. S/he can let you into your room.

JMU will reimburse you for the trip if you save your receipts, both from the bus and the taxi. If you do not save your receipts, you will not be reimbursed.

Yes, if you arrive at the airport at the designated date, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., someone will be at the airport to meet you. If you arrive at another day or time, you will have to find your own way to Antwerp.
