  Going Out

 While Antwerp has a reach history and preserves its old heritage, it also has a modern life style with theatres, cinemas, and numerous cafes, bars, and discotheques that make it a diversified entertainment center.

  Cafes, bars, discotheques

  • Near Grote Markt you will find discotheques and karaoke bars, dance cafes, and party cafes
  • St. Andries neighborhood in the historic center has pubs and summer terraces
  • Around Central Station, you will find terraces, brasseries, and cafes along Koningin Astridplein, Franklin Rooseveltplaats, De Coninckplein, Sint-Jansplein, Gemeentestraat, and Offerandestraat.
  • Terraces and dance cafes you can also find along Brouwersvliet
  • The Red Light District is known for its typical sailor's cafes in Schippersstraat and in Sint-Paulusplaats.
  • Near the University of Antwerp, you can find pubs and cafes with a friendly student atmosphere in Stadswaag, Paardenmarkt, and Ossenmarkt.
  • The Zuid District has numerous discotheques, clubs, party places, and cafes with live music.

  Art shows

  • Appeltje Theatre and Het Klokhuis - both placed in the historic center often have plays in English
  • The Stadsschouwburg (Municipal Theatre) - the theatre placed in the Quartier Latin features different events (Theaterplein 1, tel. +32 (0)3-227 03 06)
  • Royal Ballet of Flanders (Kattendijkdok - Westkaai 16, tel. +32 (0)3-234 3438) - Website

  • The Internationaal Zeemanshuis (International Seamen's House) - plays theatre shows with a touch of Antwerp folklore (Falconrui 21)
  • Sportpaleis - biggest concert and theatre hall (Schijnpoortweg 113, Merksem)
  • The International Arts Centre deSingel (Desguinlei 25) - Website
  • Raamtheater op't Zuid - placed in the Zuid neighborhood (De Vrierestraat 36)
  • Monty - plays theatre and dance shows (Montignystraat 3-5)

  Cinemas

  • UGC Cinema complex has 17 movie theatres and it is placed near the Central Station (Address: UGC Antwerpen, Van Ertbornstraat 17, tel. +32 (0)3 206 70 00)
  • Metropolis, a huge 24 movie theatre with a capacity of over 8000 seats (Groenendaallaan 394, tel. + 32 (0)3-544 36 00, email: info@kinepolis.com), Website.
