MKTG 460: Global Marketing 
in the European Union

ECON 270: International Economics and the European Union

study abroad, European Union, Belgium, European Integration, James Madison UniversityThe JMU College of Business will be offering two courses in Antwerp during May 2004:  MKTG 460, Global Marketing, and ECON 270, International Economics

MKTG 460 is an elective in all marketing major concentrations except e-commerce, and is a required course in two of three IBUS tracks. 

ECON 270 is a required course for IBUS majors and International Affairs majors, and is an elective for economics majors and minors.

Both classes will pay specific attention to the European Union and issues surrounding European integration, the Euro, and the European business environment.  Both classes are experiential, and will combine classroom lectures with field trips to business, governmental, and cultural/historic sites.

No foreign language needed.  All course instruction is in English.  Students will stay in a hotel near the historic University of Antwerp, just a short train ride away from Brussels, the heart of the European Union.tudy abroad, European Union, Belgium, European Integration, James Madison University

Learn about European integration, European monetary policy and the Euro, global marketing and marketing in the European Union, and gain an appreciation for and understanding of the European business environment.  And earn 3 hours of upper division course credit from James Madison University.

Dr. Newell Wright, from the JMU Marketing Program, will be teaching MKTG 460, with several guest lecturers from academia and industry.  Dr. Robert Horn from the JMU Economics Program will be teaching ECON 270, with several guest lecturers from academia and industry.  Both courses will include field trips such as:

bulletVisit to the European Union (Parliament, Commission, and/or Council) and lecture
bulletGuided tour of Brussels
bulletGuided tour of Antwerp
bulletGuided tour of Bruges, Belgium
bulletGuided tour of the Port of Antwerp
bulletGuided tours of museums in Antwerp, Brussels, Paris, and Amsterdam
bulletField trip to Paris, and visits to the Louvre, the Musee d'Orsay, the Eiffel Tower, Versailles, and other sites
bulletField trip to Amsterdam and visits to the Anne Frank home, a major museum (either the Van Gogh or the Rijks museum), plus a canal tour and lunch at a Dutch pancake restaurant

In addition, we may be visiting other businesses, cultural, and governmental institutions in and around Antwerp and Brussels, and we will have several group meals in Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Paris.
