Conducting a Successful Classroom Economy: Four-Week Workshop Series
  September 10, 17, 24; and October 1  ♦  3:45-5:45 p.m.  ♦  Smithland Elementary School
Discover the teaching power of in-class societies by attending any of the four. Attend all sessions and receive a copy of the resource book, The Classroom Mini-Economy, a hands-on guide to starting and managing a successful classroom economy. Participants also receive an invitation to attend an area-wide fair in May 2010 – the Global Entrepreneurship Marketplace Fair, or GEM Fair – for all area Mini-Economies and Mini-Societies. Grades 3-7.

Sept 10: Introduction. An overview of a mini-economy; how it works, what it teaches and why it will motive your students.

Sept 17: Getting Started and Making it Work.  Setting up a mini-economy in the classroom.

Sept 24: Keeping it Going. Market days, Auctions and Taxes.

Oct 1: Cross-curricular Activities and the GEM Fair. Interdisciplinary lessons and a culminating event.

 

The Stock Market Game: Empowering Students to Invest in a Secure Financial Future

Financial planning basics, the role of the stock market in the economy, research tools and details for playing this motivational cross-curricular competition will be covered. Free materials. Grades 4-12.

 

The World of Ancient Greece and Rome

The social studies SOL 3.7 is the focus of this workshop that features ancient artifacts and classroom ready lessons. Grades K-3.

 

Economics in Action: 14 Greatest Hits for Teaching Economics

This session features the resource book including simulations, role-playing activities and mystery-based lesson plans that will insure your students learn the concepts. The first ten teachers who register and attend receive a copy of the book. Grades 7-12.
