| An autopatch into the local Harrisonburg and
Rockingham County telephone system is available on the 443.150 UHF
repeater, located on the top of Laird's Knob on the Massanutten range, east of
Harrisonburg, Virginia. This repeater uses an offset of +5 MHz, and requires transmission of a CTCSS (PL) tone of 131.8 Hz. This repeater covers most of Rockingham County, and a good portion of Shenandoah, Page, and Augusta Counties also. However, the local telephone calling area includes only those numbers in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, including Elkton, Weyers Cave, Grottoes, Fulks Run, Bergton, Hinton, Bridgewater, Broadway, and Timberville. The local calling area does not include Mt. Solon, New Market, Luray, Woodstock, Staunton, Waynesboro, Fishersville, Fort Defiance, or Crimora, although the repeater can be accessed from those areas. This patch differs from most other patches in that it allows "in-dial" capability. This is the capability for a non-ham telephone caller to dial the patch's phone number. A patch puts out a tone over the air, allowing a ham to "answer" the phone. In this manner, callers can call you via your ham radio. Hams in the area wishing telephone interconnect service with in-dial capability are asked to help defray the cost of the monthly phone bill. A subscription of $30 per year is being asked. To subscribe, or to obtain more information on this patch, contact Jason Armentrout, N4DSL, at 540-269-8141, or email n4dsl@atrs.com.
