Professor Robert N. Horn
Biography
I am Professor of Economics and International Business at James Madison University. I received my B.S. from Hofstra University (New York) and my M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of New Hampshire. I was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Oceanside, Long Island.
I often teach introductory classes in macroeconomics and international economics and intermediate microeconomic theory. I credit my first economics professor, Lynn Turgeon, for my interest in economics and my view that the study of economics is more an art than a science.
I have written on a variety of issues in economics, including a forthcoming co-authored article recognizing the contributions of Lynn Turgeon. Other recent works include a widely reprinted article on age adjusted unemployment rates, the effects of income inequality on crime rates, and the dubious impact of models of corporate restructuring on higher education.
Outside the campus, I am an avid guitar player although I must admit my desire far exceeds my talent. I listen to and play mostly blues guitar and have attended several blues guitar workshops including the Fur Peace Ranch and Blues Week at Davis and Elkin's College. Current guitar heros include John Cephas, Ernie Hawkins, Jorma Kaukonen, Mary Flower and Eric Clapton.
