Philosophy Statement

To get credit for an internship (MKTG 494), you must:

  1. Read and submit the Internship Philosophy statement.

  2. Contact Dr. Shelton to discuss the nature of your internship position, your goals and objectives for the internship.  Dr. Shelton's office is located in Showker 512.

  3. Once you have secured a position, you must apply online for approval by Dr. Shelton. This must be done prior to the start of the semester in which you will be working, but no later than the end of the second week of the semester or summer session.  To be approved, your job must provide you with a significant marketing experience, and the employer must be acceptable to the JMU marketing program.  Not all employers fit this category, and Dr. Shelton will let you know if there is a problem with your employer.

  4. Once your internship has been approved, Dr. Shelton will send you the information necessary for registering for the course.  You may then register for MKTG 494 in the normal manner.

  5. You must register for MKTG 494 during the six-week summer 2004 session, which begins on June 14.  There are no exceptions to this rule.  You may not complete an internship during the summer of 2004 and register for MKTG 494 during the fall 2004
  6.  semester.  Please do not ask for an exception to this rule; it will not be granted.

  7. Complete your summer internship as per the requirements in the syllabus.
