COB 291 Introduction to Management Science
Susan W. Palocsay is a Professor of Computer Information Systems and Management Science at James Madison University where she teaches management science, statistics, simulation, and decision analysis. Before joining the faculty of JMU in 1990, she was a member of the technical staff at the MITRE Corporation in McLean, Virginia and worked on a variety of systems engineering projects in support of NASA, the FAA, and the U.S. Army.
She received her D.Sc. and M.S. degrees in Operations Research from the The George Washington University in 1991 and 1986, respectively, and her B.S. in mathematics from James Madison University in 1982.
She was the recipient of the 1992 Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) Doctoral Dissertation Award for her dissertation entitled "Nonconvex Fractional Programming". In addition to her research interests in mathematical programming, she is pursuing research in neural network modeling and decision support systems for R&D project selection. Her research has resulted in publications in Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Global Optimization, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, Neural Computing & Applications, Omega: The International Journal of Management Science, Information Technology, Performance, and Learning Journal, INFORMS Transactions on Education, Journal of Management Education, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, and in a number of conference proceedings.
She has served as a Track Chair for the 1995 and 1997 Southeast DSI meetings, the 1996 SEDSI Vice president of Publications, the 1998-2000 SEDSI Vice President of Member Services, the 2001 Associate Program Chair, the 1997-98 and 2000-2002 SEDSI Vice President of Finance, and the 2003-2004 and 2008-2009 Secretary. She is the Senior Treasurer of the Women in OR/MS Forum, and a member of DSI, INFORMS, and several academic honor societies. She was the 2002-03 recipient of the College of Business' Distinguished Teacher Award and the 2003-04 College of Business Madison Scholar. She is the President of the JMU Chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
