Online marketing practices are the focus of this course, paying particular attention to building site traffic; i.e., attracting visitors to our online presence.  Our interest is in understanding the relevant technologies and practices, and what they do to enable and facilitate digital marketing.

Enrollment in this course is restricted to business majors who have completed COB300.  Non-business majors may be eligible with instructor approval if space is available.  Marketing majors and other business majors have priority, in that order.

contacting Dr. Williamson  If you need to talk with me other than during official hours, I'm accessible. You're welcome to come to my office at any time.  If I'm not otherwise occupied, we'll talk.  My office is ZSH235.  The single best way to get my attention and a response is by e-mail at williakc@jmu.edu.  Phone is second best.  I spend a lot of time in e-mail every day, and I try to be faithful about providing quick turnaround.  That said, you're welcome to visit my office also.

learning objectives  You should be able to do the following by the end of this semster.

attendance policy  Your grade in this course is based on your performance throughout the semester, which includes satisfying professional expectations.  It's your responsibility to inform yourself well (see below) about the components of your grade, the weights assigned to those components, and course expectations.

I call roll each class meeting until I can associate your name with your face.  I usually accomplish this about halfway through the semester.  This is also for tracking attendance which is part of professional expectations.  When I can associate everyone's name with the correct face, I may or may not take time to call roll.  You need to be very aware that when I can associate your name with your face you become very conspicuous by your absence.  Absence from class is a failure to meet work responsibilities.

Attendance is important for two reasons.

I hope you'll enjoy the experience enough that attendance is not an issue.

tests  We have a mid-term and a final.  They're based on reading assignments, class discussions, and exercises.  The may require two class periods to complete because it requires us to work with the technology.
