This is our first exercise for the semester.  There are links near the end of this page to two very good online resources with all the information needed to complete this work successfully.  Before doing this exercise, let's review these slides on html basics and then visit the online resources.

This is a web page we're preparing using Notepad Miscrosoft's Notepad which has only one file extension: .txt.  Because we want this file to display in a web browser as an HTML page, we save our work in Notepad with an .htm extension.  We must do this manually by keying in htm in lieu of the default txt in the 'File name' text field.

IMPORTANT: For this exercise, name your file '[last name]1'.  My file would be williamson1.htm.

We're going to develop our own home pages using HTML tags and notepad.  Your page must include each of the following for a total point value of 65.

  1. HTML head, title, and body tags (15 points)
  2. an image (5 points):
  3. at least two horizontal rules (2 points)
  4. at least three functioning links to other web sites (15 Points)
  5. an unordered list (5 points)
  6. an ordered list (5 points)
  7. bold, centered, and italicized wording (3 points)
  8. a functional email address on which someone can click and send email to you (5 points)
  9. Include a form for some purpose.   For example, create a form for a very brief survey soliciting information about the particular web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Opera, etc) a respondent is using.  Include fields for each of the following. (10 points)

You may tap into whatever resources you wish (except each other; Do your own work.) to complete this project.  In my judgment, the following are exceptionally good.

This exercise is due by close of business, 1700 hrs Th.30.Aug.  You submit it by sending it to me as an email attachment.  That is, you send to me your webpage prepared in Notepad and saved with an .htm extension as an attachment to an email.
